Aid is On the Way        It looked like a small, dark speck in the sky. The villagers gathered in a throng, discussing what the thing the sky could have been. Some thought it was a bird. Some thought it was an asteroid. Others thought it was another bad omen for more tsunamis. A week ago, the small island was ravaged by a series of powerful tidal waves, seven in all. The first wave came without notice; the local elders did not even sense its coming. Before anyone could react to the first destructive wave, the second one came gushing in with equal force. Merrimer Hill     It was an amiable, autumnal afternoon, with a cool breeze blowing the newly-fallen leaves. The orange glow of the sunset was vibrant but moribund. Old Willard wheeled himself to the bus stop at the base of Merrimer Hill. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet, in search of bus fare. To Old Willard’s dismay, he did not have the sixty-five cents necessary to ride the bus on a senior discount.       “Dang it, I must’ve left it on the table.”       Nobody was around the vicinity, just Willard and the busy traffic of the road.
